Are You A Realist?

I’m not going to pull any punches or sugar coat this question. Either you believe that success in work and life is something that requires focus, determination and hard work… or you believe in the money fairy who is going to magically drop thousands of dollars in your bank account just because you need the money.

I often quote people like Jim Rohn and Darren Hardy because they truly are realists. They enjoy amazing success because they work amazingly hard. I often listen to Jims CDs and in one of his presentations he talks about how success comes to deservers… not to needers. The old saying doesn’t go ‘if you need you will reap’ – it says ‘if you sow you will reap’. Sowing, or planting, requires that you take some action and do some work.

And yet there seem to be so many people who truly believe that rubbing a crystal or listening to a recording from some random beach will bring them good fortune – or that an hour or less of work each day is somehow going to make them rich. If that were true then surely we would live in an abundant world which had no poverty. It isn’t true though.

The truth is that there are thousands of people selling programs that you don’t need or that simply don’t work. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that they are thieves or liars but I would say that they lack integrity.

A person of integrity speaks with pride about the many peoples lives they have changed through their products and services. A person of integrity is able to demonstrate the success they and others have had from those products and services – rather than the success they have had purely from selling the products. A person of integrity doesn’t present themself as a successful person when in reality they have an empty bank account and an empty life.

I often talk about the importance of properly defining what it is you want to do and who you want to be online. If you just want to make a few dollars here and there and enjoy the company of other people online then that’s fine. But if you want to enjoy substantial success online then you have to start thinking and working like an online business owner.

You can’t afford to neglect the important relationships that can be had with other online business owners. You can’t afford to neglect the fact that it is an online business you are building and like any business you need to know how to set goals and, more importantly, how to achieve those goals. This is the reality of online business and the reason you need to be a realist in order to be successful. Despite what you may have read, there aren’t any ‘accidental millionaires’. Even those few who have had rapid and extraordinary success online started out with a unique idea. And rather than just think and ponder about that good idea, they got up off the couch and turned that idea into something tangible.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is that the only pot of gold you are going to find at the end of the internet rainbow is the one that you create. The internet has made extraordinary success more accessible than ever before – for those who are prepared to get their hands dirty and work at it.

Keep it real!

How To Be A Responsible Auto Blogger

Auto blogging is a contentious issue for many people that’s right up there with ‘made for adsense’ sites on the list of evil things people do on the Internet. Whether it is a bad thing or not really depends on what your motivation is and how you use it.

I’m sure the purists would say that anything to do with auto blogging is bad and I would have agreed with them a year or so ago. But I remembered the ‘good old days’ when we used to simply aggregate information from other sites to provide a better resource for our own website visitors. Let’s look at the difference between an evil auto blog and a responsible use of auto blogging.

Evil Auto Blog

These are generally very easy to spot. Here are a few of the tell tale signs that you are looking at an evil auto blog:

  1. The owner is usually ‘domain.com’ – they don’t provide a name or an address or anything else about themselves. It is, for the most part, an anonymously owned site.
  2. The blog is heavily laden with AdSense and ads from places like Amazon and Clickbank.
  3. The information is very fragmented and often comes from article sites. Many of the posts are poorly written and every post has either a different author or no author.
  4. There are no comments because, for the most part, there is nothing worth commenting on.
  5. If there are any comments, they are from places like Yahoo Answers.

This is the typical auto blog. Many auto blog owners put hundreds of these things up and basically pollute the blogosphere with poor content that is mainly aimed at attracting search engines and making them money. They have no interest in the topics of their blogs – it’s all about how much cash they can grab. You’re not likely to bookmark this type of blog because they generally aren’t worth returning to.

The Responsible Auto Blog

Responsible auto blogging isn’t really auto blogging – it is more about aggregating useful data from authoritative sources or providing relevant product information. It isn’t evil, for example, to occasionally include information about products on Amazon, or to use AdSense on your blog. The main thing that sets an evil auto blog apart from a responsible one is the unique content. You can have a blog that is primarily your own unique, useful content and also use an RSS feed from an authority site to provide good information that compliments the content that you are providing yourself.

That’s what we used to call ‘aggregating’. It’s simply pulling in a small amount of content that enhances the experience for people that visit your blog or website. Unfortunately, most of the software that provides ‘auto blogging’ functionality is aimed at people who want to create hundreds or thousands of money making blogs without any interest in the visitors other than whether they can grab some money from those people.

I don’t currently aggregate any data here on WFHT but I do have a few blogs where I do aggregate information from time to time. The primary goal though is just to provide good information rather than create a pointless money grab.

The two products I use for auto blogging are Auto Blog Blueprint 3 and WP Robot. ABB3 is a membership that explains in great detail, and with videos, how to set up your auto blogs. WP Robot is an amzing tool for aggregating data from various sources, automatically, into your blog(s).

My Highest Recommendation For Bloggers: 31DBBB

I’ve mentioned in the past that I don’t generally judge other peoples products by price. The price is irrelevant other than whether I can afford it or not.

For example, if a product costs $1000 but there is every chance that, if you use the product correctly, it will generate many times that amount, then the price tag isn’t so important. What IS important is how much value you get from the product (assuming you could afford the $1000). This is a fairly basic business concept and we call it ROI (return on investment). It is how much VALUE you can expect to get for the price you paid.

There are a handful of products that I’ve bought over the past five years or so that I place in my ‘no brainer’ category. These are products that I am 100% confident will provide value to anyone who buys them, and with that in mind I recommend them to anyone that I meet who has an interest in blogging.

Put Your Heart And Soul Into It

Writing a blog that people want to read isn’t easy. You need to have some geniunely interesting or informative topics to write about. You also need to have a personal interest in those topics and a genuine desire to share information. What I’m saying is that you need to put your heart and soul into it.

Every day I see blogs that are smothered in Adsense ads, product pitches and auto-generated content. I’m sure those blogs get some traffic but they are really nothing more than electronic billboards on some sleazy side street.

4 Ways To Attract More Buyers To Your Website

Website traffic is one of the hottest topics amongst online business owners and entrepreneurs, but traffic isn’t going to grow your business if you aren’t converting website visitors to buyers. Here are a few of my best tips on how to increase your conversion rate.

1. It’s Better To Give Than Receive

This was a tip that I picked up while listening to a Jim Rohn audio. We’ve all heard that old saying, but Jim completed the sentence by saying:

It’s better to give than receive… because giving starts the receiving process.

I’d never thought about it that way but it certainly makes sense. Someone has to be the first to give, so why not you? Give the visitors to your website something for free. It’s an old and very effective way of building a mailing list if that’s your aim. If you aren’t building a mailing list you can still give your visitors a free gift such as a report that is related to the topic of your site. If you can write the entire report yourself then you are also demonstrating your authority or skills. Make sure the free report has some genuinely useful information. Think about some of the freebies you have claimed at other sites – I bet you can remember some of the better ones.

2. Solve Their Problems

Most buyers know what they want before they come to your site. Chances are they will do some comparisons before they buy. If your site specifically says that product A can solve problem B and another site has a very broad description of what the product does then you will most likely get the sale. I’m sure you’ve been in that situation where you go looking for something and amongst the sites you look at, one of them says that their product solves your specific problem. You probably purchased that product because we generally don’t want to risk buying something when we’re not sure if it is suitable for the problem we are trying to find a solution for.

3. Engage Your Readers

Invite your website visitors to tell you about their issues that relate to your niche. You may get some great ideas for changes and additions to your own products. Your regular visitors become an asset, feeding you with real world issues and ideas.

4. Give, Give And Then Give Some More

If you are an expert in your profession or field then you should be blogging nearly every day. Prove to your website visitors that it’s worth their time to check your blog regularly. Provide your best tips, information and ideas. By blogging regularly and providing information that is really useful you are not only increasing your readership, you are also providing excellent content that will get indexed in the search engines which is going to bring you more visitors.
