Internet Marketing Deception

I’m not into complaining all that much and I never dwell on the negatives, but every once in a while I think some things are worth mentioning.

If you’ve been marketing online for a while you may have seen some of those ‘You have new funds’ emails that some online marketers send out. In the email it then says something like ‘How would you like a bunch of these emails every day’?

It’s an effective way of getting people to open your emails but it is also an effective way of having many of your subscribers cancel their subscriptions.

I received several emails today from a fairly well know marketer – Ian Del Carmen. The emails said they were from ‘Licensing Department’, with the subject line ‘Your Order Is Complete’ and the content of the emails went like this:

ATTENTION: Gary Smith

Order Date: 9/01/10
Order Status: Complete
Amount: $0.00

P.S. I hope you enjoy your fr.ee once
in a lifetime bonus...

I really don’t care how ‘mega’ the bonus is, I don’t employ deception in any of my online marketing and my response to this so-called order that I never created was to unsubscribe from his list.

The link that was provided led to a paid product and the ‘bonus’ was at the bottom of the page.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this ‘your order is complete’ tactic violates the trade practices or business laws in some countries – but I’m not a lawyer so I have no idea whether this type of deception is legal or not.

Either way, it doesn’t paint a very good picture of Mr. Del Carmen.
